Training Choir (OGTC)
We are building a system of training choirs that will be a feeder program for the OGC as well
as a program unto itself. Each choir will perform at both the
Christmas and Spring Concerts. When completed, there will be training choirs for grades 1-3, 3-5, and 5-7.
The first training choir, which
will ultimately be the Level 3 choir, was launched in September 2007. It
includes girls from third grade on up.
The holistic, age-appropriate curriculum for
the training choir includes the following elements:
General Musical:
Reading and writing musical notation
Sight-singing
Discriminative listening
Artistic sensitivity
Vocal:
Healthy, age-appropriate vocal production
Good intonation
Ensemble blend
Beginning 2-part singing
Repertoire:
Sacred and Secular
Multi-cultural folk music
Classical repertoire from the Renaissance to
the present
Multiple languages
Social:
Experience the joy of working in community
to create something greater than self
Importance of mutual respect and
encouragement
Importance of valuing each choir member
Emotional:
Build confidence and self-esteem
Experience the joys and rewards of discipline
Opportunity to express emotions through
music
Spiritual:
Growth in spiritual understanding through
the discussion of texts of sacred
music
Girls are encouraged to view performance as
a way to glorify God as opposed to
self
Chamber Choir (OGCC)
In September 2007 OGCC was formed in response to two needs. First, as
the reputation of OGC continued to grow, so did the opportunities for performance. Second, many of
the girls were ready for greater challenges; however, not
all of the OGC members could make a commitment to a more rigorous
performance schedule.
The Chamber Choir is providing a way to grow and meet both needs.
All members of the OGCC must also belong to OGC. They attend two
rehearsals per week, and will perform regularly throughout the Pittsburgh
area. It is a highly selective ensemble with extremely rigorous
requirements. OGCC already has a full performance schedule including the “Walk
for Racial Harmony” and The Pressley Ridge 175th Anniversary Gala at the
PPG Winter Gardens.
Invitation to join the OGCC is based on the following criteria:
Dedication to OGC as exhibited in attendance
record and completion of homework
Respectful attitude toward director and fellow
choir members both in and out of rehearsals
Desire to work in community
Focused energy at rehearsals and
performances
Positive attitude before and during
performances
Determination to learn and memorize music
Willingness to accept correction and desire to
improve
Ability and desire to blend
Ability to sing with accurate intonation
Love of singing and desire to strive for
excellence
Desire for artistry in rehearsals and
performance
